Mieke D

Mieke D (they/them) is a mixed-race, invisibly disabled, genderqueer femme and interdisciplinary performance artist of Chinese-Indonesian, Dutch, and Irish descent living on Lenape land. With over 15 years of experience as a maker, educator, and cultural organizer, Mieke creates liberatory spaces for storytelling and political education through community. Currently, they serve as Community Practice Coordinator at the Wilma Theater, Community Engagement Consultant with NCDC, and performer-creator-facilitator with the Philly Asian Futures project produced by Philly Asian Performing Artists and Asian Arts Initiative. Past clients and collaborators include: the Bearded Ladies Cabaret, People’s Light, UArts, the Pig Iron School, Ping Chong & Company, Asian Boss Ladies Leadership Retreat, PowerTools for Progress, the Museum of Chinese in America, and public schools throughout Philadelphia and New York.

Mieke’s work has been supported by the 2025 Leeway Foundation Window of Opportunity Grant, 2021 Leeway Foundation Art and Change Grant, Network of Ensemble Theaters, and Illuminate the Arts. As an artist, Mieke devises dance, theater, and performance art that is personal and political, comedic and earnest, sometimes “hilarious and disturbing.” Like a medieval fool, they speak truth to power “with grace, wit and necessity.” Mieke loves boundaries, boo hoos, big hugs and bao buns! https://www.mieked.com/
