Just before sunset, two dancers meet in the garden and a duet unfolds. Commissioned by the American Philosophical Society, NCDC’s Return Return Departure is a series of duets and corresponding videos occurring in conjunction with the museum’s exhibition Tempus Fugit: Time Flies, by contemporary artist Antonia Contro. This genre-bending dance explores our complex relationship to time and furthers NCDC’s ongoing interest in pulling dance out of the theater. Return Return Departure follows the dancers as they travel from the gallery and into the enclosed garden across from the APS Museum. Musical composition by long-time NCDC collaborator Michael Kiley fills the garden as the sun sets and the dancers and audience join together in completing the cycle of the performance each night.
